Brewer, Alice Firman Van Ess, 1919-2006; Student, secretary, Naval Lieutenant, and United States Foreign Service assistant. Mount Holyoke College graduate, 1941. Papers consist of correspondence with her parents, Dorothy Firman Van Ess and John Van Ess, course records,documents concerning the Young Women's Christian Association summer camp at Silver Bay, New York (where Brewer worker during the summer), memorabilia, biographical information, and photographs. Materials primarily document her social and academic life as a student at Mount Holyoke College and her parents' work as missionaries in Iraq. Her letters discuss her involvement with student organizations and College traditions such as freshmen hazing and the May Day pageant. Course records include papers written for English, music and religion classes.
